HOW TO PLAY SANTOOR MUSICAL INSTRUMENT - SANTUR / SANTOOR PLAYING TECHNIQUES : The Santoor musical instrument is played while sitting in an asana called Ardha-Padmasana, Padmasana or crossed leg posture and placing it on top of the lap. While playing Santoor, the broad side of Santoor is closer to the waist of the musician and the shorter side of Santoor is away from the Santoor player musician.

SANTOOR / SANTUR TUNING TECHNIQUES : The Indian classical music instrument Santoor or Santur has 100 strings and 4 string groups tuned on same note. Santoor player performers often tune the strings as per the composition. If there are major note then the Santoor Strings are tuned on major notes chronologically. Santur / Santoor Tuning is done with the Santoor pegs which are on the right side of the Santoor. Santoor maestros play the Santoor with a diatonic tuning with all strings of the Santoor tuned to the chosen scale. This type of Santoor tuning has a wonderful effect that the Santoor strings that are not struck reverberate and they resonate at the same time. This Santur tuning produces a particularly beautiful and full sound. Another big advantage is that a Santoor player cannot strike a wrong note since all the Santoor strings remain in tune. This type of Santoor tuning is the most common. Santoor can also be tuned chromatically.
